While staying in Yucatan, why not try taking a tour through trails exhibiting local plants in danger of extinction and what is being done to save them?
The hotel was built with palm roofs to support the balance of the ecosystem. Eco Paraiso has created many educational modules so you can learn about the environment during your stay. When guests arrive, the staff will give them a letter which has some conservation recommendations, such as separating garbage, towel and blanket reuse, turning off lights notice, etc. The hotel has a library with more than 70 books about culture and archeology. Ask the reception if you can participate in the turtle releasing, it will be a great experience for you!
Eco Paraiso Xixim has created two interpretative trails showing local plants which is in the danger of extinction. For example: dwarf coconut became extinct due to a disease transmitted by "Chicharrita". Moreover, these trails reveal the biological history of dwarf coconut and Xixim mangroves. The trail also has a museum where you can see other plants, insects and reptiles.
In the hotel a nursery and a vegetable garden have been created where local products like coriander, thyme, basil and parsley are cultivated; the chef uses these products to prepare the food in the hotel.
The staff is aware of the environment as well and they have created an Integral System for Organic Waste. With this they maintain a compost and the recycling is100% natural. The hotel uses biodegradable soap for the efficient functioning of the compost and the use of gray waters too as Eco Paraiso Xixim has its own dirty water plant.
The hotel employs local people and is committed to the local community. They support sport activities for teenagers by providing uniforms and organising games for them.
All these activities are supported by the Mexican Fund of Conservation of the Nature, who organises meetings every two months, verifies the processes and trains the personnel about caring for the destination.
